HURRICANE - The Paradigm Shift - the award-winning short drama written/produced by West Virginia native and Putnam County resident Sam Holdren - has been selected to screen as part of the upcoming Appalachian Film Festival.

This officially becomes the 8th festival screening for the film, which continues to screen around North America.

Directed by Jon Barr, The Paradigm Shift is about an activist history professor (played by H. Michael Walls) who assigns his class to design a plan to assassinate the President.

The repercussions are immediate for everyone involved, particularly upon the professor's teaching assistant (Nicholas Wilder), a timid young man whose reluctance to choose a side plants him right in the middle.

Other upcoming screenings of the film include: the White Sands International Film Festival in Las Cruces, NM on April 25th & 26th, the Cape Fear Independent Film Festival in early May, and the ReelHeART International Film Festival in Toronto, Ontario in late June.

The film has previously won the Audience Award from the Main Line Film Festival in Wayne, PA; Best Student Narrative from the Peace On Earth Film Festival in Chicago, IL; Best Student Film (College/University) from the Wild Rose Independent Film Festival in Des Moines, IA for Barr and Holdren, as well as Best Actor from the same festival for the film's lead actor H. Michael Walls.

Usually a writer, director, and/or producer, Holdren plans to take advantage of any influx of film work that will come from the tax credits offered by the state of West Virginia, and offers his regard to the West Virginia Film Office for its work in making those tax credits a reality.

Holdren - who recently served as a consultant on the upcoming feature documentary Searching For Sunlight - is expanding his professional services to include production management, script consultation, and general production consulting, which may encompass more than the average movie-goer might expect.

On Searching For Sunlight, for example, Holdren's job was to design a film festival submission and marketing strategy based upon both the practical and commercial goals of the film itself, which is actually something Holdren has been doing for the last few years both for his own films, and with the films of others.

As a two-time graduate of WV State University who also has his M.F.A. in Film & Media Arts from Temple University, Holdren is currently a resident of Hurricane, WV, and serves on the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Filmmakers Guild.
