Born in Charleston, WV, Sam Holdren earned a B.S. in Communications and a B.A. in English: Professional Writing from West Virginia State College (now University), along with an M.F.A. in Film & Media Arts from Temple University.

As a director, writer, and/or producer of multiple award-winning short films, Holdren has screened in more than 30 film festivals across North America. As an educator, he has previously taught media arts and screenwriting as an adjunct instructor at Temple University, and public speaking at WV State University.

He has twice served on the Board of Directors for the West Virginia Filmmakers Guild - a non-profit organization that has supported makers through workshops, networking, and fiscal sponsorship - and at one time, Holdren was active in multiple capacities within the theatre scene in Charleston, WV.
